Relationally: Churches are families and when a family is divided by conflict it rips the fabric of relationship and the pain is felt on many different layers. Human relationships have the ability to bring us great sorrow but also great joy . Like the father of the prodigal son, there is great joy in a relationship conciliated; an experience we all share as Christ followers being conciliated to God the Father through the work of Jesus Christ.
Financially: For a church, the math is simple. Unhealthy conflict facilitates the shrinking of the church and along with its budget to do the work to which it is called. Although financial issues may not be the primary consideration for conciliation, it is usually the issue that get leadership's attention. Conciliation promotes unity, not conformity. It may reveal and opportunity to get behind those who are passionate about a ministry to support.
